Through the ACS CAN Volunteer Forum (the “Forum”), we seek to provide a place for an open exchange of ideas related to ACS CAN, advocacy campaigns and volunteers. While the Form is governed by the User Agreement, the Volunteer Forum Policy (the “Forum Policy”) provides additional information about the Forum.
Please read the Forum Policy carefully before you use the Forum. If you do not agree to be bound by the User Agreement and the Forum Policy, please do not access or use the Forum.
ACS CAN reserves the right to change the Forum Policy at any time, without notice to you. You can determine whether the Forum Policy has been modified since your last visit by checking the “Last updated” legend posted at the top of this page.
The Software
The Forum is powered by phpBB (“phpBB software”, “www.phpbb.com”, “phpBB Group”), which is a bulletin board solution that can be downloaded from www.phpbb.com. The phpBB software only facilitates internet based discussions. The phpBB Group is not responsible for what ACS CAN allows and/or disallows as permissible content and/or conduct. Privacy
If you choose to participate in this Forum, please remember that any information that you disclose in these areas becomes public information. Further, you agree to any information you have entered to being stored in a database. While this information will be treated in accordance with our Privacy Policy, neither ACS CAN nor phpBB shall be held responsible for any hacking attempt that may lead to the data being compromised. You should exercise caution when deciding whether or not to disclose your personal information. Any information collected during any session of usage by you (“your information”) is collected via two ways. Firstly, browsing Forum the will cause the phpBB software to create a number of cookies, which are small text files that are downloaded on to your computer’s web browser temporary files. The first two cookies just contain a user identifier (“user-id”) and an anonymous session identifier (“session-id”), automatically assigned to you by the phpBB software. A third cookie will be created once you have browsed topics within the Forum and is used to store which topics have been read, thereby improving your user experience. Cookies external to the phpBB software my be created while browsing the Forum, though these are outside the scope of this document, which is intended to only cover the cookies created by the phpBB software.
The second way in which we collect your information is by what you submit to us. This can be, and is not limited to: posting as an anonymous user (“anonymous posts”), registering on the Forum (“your account”) and posts submitted by you after registration and whilst logged in (“your posts”).
Your account will at a bare minimum contain a uniquely identifiable name (“your user name”), a personal password used for logging into your account (“your password”) and a personal, valid e-mail address (“your e-mail”). Your information for your account at the Forum is protected by data-protection laws applicable in the country that hosts us. You have the option of what information in your account is publicly displayed. Furthermore, within your account, you have the option to opt-in or opt-out of automatically generated e-mails from the phpBB software.
Your password is ciphered (a one-way hash) so that it is secure. However, it is recommended that you do not reuse the same password across a number of different websites. Your password is the means of accessing your account at the Forum, so please guard it carefully and under no circumstance will anyone affiliated with the Forum, phpBB or another 3rd party, legitimately ask you for your password. Should you forget your password for your account, you can use the “I forgot my password” feature provided by the phpBB software.
