Statement from American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) Government Relations Director Molly Medenblik

LANSING, MI – “The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) was thrilled to see the Senate Health Policy Committee pass oral chemotherapy fairness legislation unanimously today. ACS CAN looks forward to seeing the full Senate quickly pass this legislation and the Governor signing this critical legislation into law soon.

“This legislation would give chronically ill patients more affordable access to the cancer treatment they need. It would ensure that the out-of-pocket costs for the patient for oral and intravenous (IV) chemotherapy are similar. Currently, the out-of-pocket costs for some oral chemotherapy medications are higher than IV medications. This is an unnecessary barrier for some Michiganders.

“Oral chemotherapy fairness legislation was initially introduced in Michigan over 15 years ago. That is a long time to make cancer patients wait, especially since 43 other states have passed similar legislation.”
