World Cancer Day

February 3, 2012

February 4th marks World Cancer Day, a day when the global cancer community comes together to make our voices heard as we raise awareness about the need to make the fight to defeat cancer an international priority. Events are happening worldwide to raise awareness and engage the general public. But, I wanted to let you know about one particular event that I find very exciting. Tonight, for the second year in a row, the American Cancer Society is lighting one of the worldŠ—'s most recognized buildings, the Empire State Building, orange and blue.  Will you be in NYC tonight? Be sure to take a picture and leave it as a comment below! According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, there were an estimated 12.7 million new cancer cases in 2008 worldwide. Nearly half of all cancer cases and deaths could be prevented with proper access to proven screenings and prevention measures Š—– thatŠ—'s why this day of global recognition is so important. ACS CAN is excited to commemorate the day by Š—“lightingŠ— our Twitter account and engaging our social networks in a conversation about how they can join the fight against cancer. What will you do to mark World Cancer Day? *Image retrieved from The American Cancer SocietyŠ—'s website
