Mississippi's Legislative Session Will End with 200,000 Mississippians Still Without Access to Health Care

ACS CAN is extremely disappointed to see legislation aimed at expanding health care coverage for hard-working Mississippians fail to pass

May 3, 2024

JACKSON, MS – May 3, 2024— “The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is extremely disappointed to see legislation aimed at expanding health care coverage for hard-working Mississippians fail to pass.

“For individuals in the coverage gap dealing with cancer, we know increasing access to health insurance through Medicaid would have given them their best chance to survive their diagnosis and thrive.

“It is important to recognize how far we have come in our efforts to expand Medicaid, and we are so grateful to our volunteers who played a pivotal role in bringing Mississippi this close to joining the 40 other states and the District of Columbia who have passed this lifesaving legislation.

“ACS CAN appreciates the leaders who worked to move this forward; we look forward to working with legislative champions to increase access to care in 2025 for the 200,000 Mississippians who remain in the coverage gap.”
