American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Names Lance Barbour Louisiana’s Government Relations Director

Lance Barbour has been named government relations director for Louisiana by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN). The announcement was made by James Gray, ACS CAN’s Managing Director for the organization’s South Central Region.

 

In this role, Barbour will lead ACS CAN’s direct lobbying and government relations program in Louisiana. This includes actively planning and implementing state and federal campaigns to achieve the organization’s mission to reduce the cancer burden and support those suffering from the disease.

 

Barbour previously served as grassroots manager for ACS CAN in Louisiana which involved recruiting, educating and mobilizing volunteers throughout the state on various cancer-related policies at local, state and federal levels. Prior to that, he worked as a marketing and community outreach coordinator at Imperial Health in Lake Charles, La. and as a psychiatric counselor for Medstar Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore.

 

Barbour is a graduate of Virginia Tech University, where he earned bachelor’s degrees in biology and psychology.  He went on to earn a master of public health degree in health promotion from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
