ACS CAN Looking to Work with Governor Cuomo on Crucial Health Measures

January 3, 2018

Julie Hart, director of New York government relations for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) released the following statement following the delivery of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s State of the State Message:

“In 2017 Governor Cuomo, and the state legislature enacted numerous important public health measures such as including e-cigarettes in New York’s Clean Indoor Air Law, protecting cancer patients while expanding access to emerging biologic cancer therapies, and allowing public employees time off for cancer screenings. While these laws are crucial in protecting New Yorkers, there is still a great deal of work to do to make New York a leader in the fight against cancer.

“Now is the time for New York to take the next step. We look forward to working with Governor Cuomo and our legislative leaders in 2018 and call upon them to increase funding to ensure all residents have access to lifesaving cancer screenings, increase the age for the sale of tobacco products to 21 and protect our kids from dangerous indoor tanning devices.  It’s time to make cancer history.”
