ACS CAN’s Dick Woodruff Testifies Against Graham-Cassidy Bill

September 25, 2017

ACS CAN Senior Vice President Dick Woodruff testified before Congress today outlining the devastating impact the Graham-Cassidy bill would have for cancer patients and survivors, as well as millions of other Americans.

In his testimony before the Senate Finance Committee, Woodruff told senators the bill essentially rolls back the patient protections implemented under current law, including those for people with pre-existing conditions.

“We recognize that the current health care law requires bipartisan fixes. But we oppose the Graham-Cassidy bill because of the potential negative impact it would have on the 1.6 million Americans who will be diagnosed with cancer this year and the additional 15.5 million Americans today with a history of cancer,” Woodruff testified.

ACS CAN’s analysis shows the bill could allow insurers to:

  • Charge cancer patients and survivors far higher rates to make coverage unaffordable
  • Eliminate coverage for cancer care in their health plans
  • Re-institute arbitrary caps on annual and lifetime coverage

Already, thousands of people have called their Senators asking them to oppose this bill.

Call your Senator and urge them to vote NO on the Graham-Cassidy bill because it is bad for cancer patients and survivors. It takes less than a minute, and we provide you with their phone number and a sample message you can leave with your Senator’s receptionist or on their voice mail.
