Palliative Care: Pain Management Amidst the Opioid Epidemic

Friday, September 29, 2017 - 11:30am to 2:30pm
Providence Hospital West Auditorium
3200 Providence Drive
Anchorage, AK 99508

Just as palliative care is making its way into care plans across the nation, the opioid epidemic creates a new set of challenges… and opportunities. Please join us for a community dialogue on issues related to pain management for those facing serious illness in this era of increased awareness and anxiety.

Are we doing enough to help patients? What about addiction? How are recent changes in laws and regulations affecting care? The forum will address these and other questions.

Panelists:

  • Jay Butler, MD, Chief Medical Officer, State of Alaska; President, Association of State & Territorial Health Officials
  • Pat Dooley, RN, Director, Providence Hospice
  • J. Thomas Grissom, MD, Interventional Pain Physician, Algone
  • Ursula McVeigh, MD, Medical Director, Providence Palliative Care

The Forum will be held in Anchorage on Friday, September 29, at the Providence Hospital West Auditorium. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. The program will start at noon and conclude by 2:30.

The format will be a luncheon and panel discussion, followed by table discussions on how these issues are affecting Alaskans, and how we can improve education among patients, providers, and the broader community. Recommendations from the table discussions will inform policy efforts across the state.

This forum is open to the public, but RSVP is required for seating and meal count!

Please RSVP at fightcancer.org/akforum

The forum will be webcast statewide. For further information, contact [email protected].
