New Report: 2.8 Million Youth Report Current Use of Tobacco Products

New data from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Youth Tobacco Survey (NYTS) found that more than 6.21 million youth reported ever using tobacco products and 2.8 million report current use (past 30 days) of any tobacco product in 2023.

New Survey: 1 in 10 Cancer Patients Has Been Impacted by Nation’s Drug Shortages with Significant Delays to Cancer Care

The nation’s drug shortage crisis continues to affect cancer patients and survivors with 1 in every 10 (10%) reporting impacts to care, a majority of whom have had difficulties finding substitute medications (68%) and cited treatment delays (45%).  The data is part of a new survey by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN).

CMS Should Prioritize Patients’ Experience as the Administration Negotiates Drug Prices for 2026 Plans

Earlier this week, 22 cancer patient and caregiver advocacy groups, including the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), sent a letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) offering recommendations on how the agency should consider pharmaceutical therapeutic alternatives to selected oncology drugs for 2026 Medicare plans as they head into the negotiation process laid out in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

CMS Proposes a Medicare Prescription Payment Plan to Allow for More Flexible Payment for Patients Under Part D Prescription Plans

Today, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) submitted a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) commenting on draft guidance related to the maximum monthly cap on patient co-payments under prescription drug plans, referred to as the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan, which will begin in plan year 2025.

Hundreds of Cancer Patients, Survivors Travel to D.C. Urging Congress to Make Cancer a National Priority

As Congress works to determine 2024 priorities before the budget deadline at the end of the month, nearly 700 cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., Guam and Puerto Rico, and nearly every congressional district, will be on Capitol Hill this week to make clear to members of Congress that cancer must be a national priority.

Declaración de la Sociedad Americana Contra el Cáncer: La Sociedad Americana Contra el Cáncer está preparada para desempeñar un rol principal en la provisión de estándares de capacitación y certificación en la guía del paciente

La Red de Acción Contra el Cáncer de la Sociedad Americana Contra el Cáncer (ACS CAN), la afiliada de defensa de ACS, continúa promoviendo políticas que amplían el acceso sostenible a la guía del paciente a fin de brindar un mejor apoyo a los pacientes con cáncer. Como parte de este esfuerzo, ACS CAN insta a los CMS a finalizar una política propuesta como parte de una norma de pago reciente que permitiría a Medicare implementar una estrategia de reembolso que asegurará el pago de los servicios de guía del paciente brindados por guías capacitados profesionalmente y certificados. ACS CAN también se unió a grupos de pacientes y proveedores en una segunda carta (en inglés) para recalcar la importancia fundamental del reembolso del servicio de guía del paciente a fin de facilitar este servicio esencial.
