Current funding for the Alabama Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (ABCCEDP) provides cancer screening to only about 18% of the more than 87,000 women eligible.

· Encourage state leaders to accept federal funds available to help prevent and treat cancer by broadening access to health care. If federal funds are accepted, an estimated 313,000 Alabamians would become eligible for insurance coverage.

· Hard-working, low-income families need the security of quality health coverage to get lifesaving care when they need it, without facing huge medical bills.

· By accepting federal funds, more people would have health coverage and millions of taxpayer dollars, that are currently spent to treat uninsured people in emergency rooms, would be saved.
