Using Mobile to Recruit Volunteers

TEXT Messages

Text messages aren’t just another way for teenagers to empty your wallet, they’re one of the easiest ways to recruit new volunteers and reach your existing advocates. In most cases text messages are delivered, opened and responded to faster than snail-mail, voicemail or even email. Simply put, people DO read text messages.

Getting new volunteers signed up to receive text messages is as simple as saying:

“Pull out your phone and text FIGHT BACK to 73585.”

As if that wasn’t easy enough, here’s a menu of additional campaigns that you or your volunteers can subscribe to for more specific information:

Are you interested in…

  • access to Health Care issues? Text ACCESS to 73585
  • Breast Cancer issues? Text STRIDES to 73585
  • State & Local issues? Text your 5-digit zip code to 73585
  • Colleges Against Cancer updates? Text COLLEGE to 73585
  • Email updates from ACS CAN? Text your full email address to 73585

Additionally

  • For assistance text HELP to 73585
  • To unsubscribe from all messages text STOP to 73585

Please remember that standard text messaging rates apply.

Smartphones and the Mobile Web

No one likes being called “dumb”, but in the world of electronics some phones are just plain smarter than others, so we refer to them as smartphones. Examples of these geniuses are iPhones, Android phones and Blackberries, but the list keeps growing.

Like mini-computers, smartphones allow you to read emails, manage your contacts, and even take pictures. Unfortunately, most of them have a tiny screen, so browsing the internet often involves a magnifying glass and tons of patience. Well, ACS CAN will have you un-squinting your eyes in no time with the new ACS CAN Mobile Website. The new site, which you can visit by going to mobile.acscan.org, is a slimmed-down version of the acscan.org website that should be easier to view on your phone.

Mobile Phone Applications

Be honest, you really like playing games, reading sports scores, and checking the weather on your phone, right? Well now you can do something even better…fight cancer. With the ACS CAN App for iPhone you can get news and updates from ACS CAN, right on your iPhone. But we didn’t stop there. With the app you can recruit new volunteers, watch videos, follow us on Twitter, make a donation and even download free goodies to your iPhone. Not an iPhone user? That’s okay; an Android version of the ACS CAN App is on our “to-do” list. Until then we encourage you to use the ACS CAN Mobile Website by visiting mobile.acscan.org
