Nome, Alaska to Become Smoke-Free

On the evening of Monday, May 23, the Nome City Council voted 4-1 for a comprehensive smoke-freeĀ ordinance which includes workplaces, restaurants, bars and hotel and motel rooms. The result of the coordinated campaign’s efforts is the strongest ordinance yet passed in Alaska. The ordinance goes into effect on September 23.

    Hooray!!!! Passage of this ordinance in Nome is a long time coming. Was it already almost a decade ago we were laying the groundwork? And the strongest ordinance yet? Truly amazing. Good work everyone!!! Glad to see there’s still an awesome smokefree team in AK.
