Early Detection - Breast Cancer
ACS legislative goals:
- Protect the Ladies First Program from further budget cuts or staff reductions.
- Increase funding to the Ladies First Program by $125, 000, which would allow the program to reach and screen an additional 225 women for breast cancer. This amount represents only 0.01 percent of the total state general fund budget.
ACS legislative outcomes:
The Ladies First program lost two federally funded positions during the August 2008 budget rescission process. ACS worked with the Senate Health & Welfare Committee to introduce bill S.56, to restore two full-time Ladies First positions. S. 56 received a hearing in both the senate and the house, no further action was taken. ACS successfully blocked additional budget cuts to the program.
