ACS CAN Names Davoli New York Metro Government Relations Director

NEW YORK, NY – June 1, 2015 -The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) has named Michael Davoli of Brooklyn, NY as New York Metro government relations director.

In this post Davoli will oversee all efforts to influence policy and legislation to help improve and protect the health of all New York City residents.

Davoli, who has served as grassroots manager for the New York Metro Region of ACS CAN since 2011, has been the acting government relations director for the region since November of 2014.In his previous role, Davoli led ACS CAN’s grassroots operations including mobilizing volunteers, community leaders, coalition partners and elected officials on local, state and federal legislative campaigns.

“In New York City, New York State and nationwide, we currently face crucial health issues, ranging from the dangers presented by e-cigarettes to the lack of quality physical education programs for many of our school children,” said Bill Sherman, vice president of government relations of the Eastern Division of the ACS CAN. “Michael’s background and experience make him perfectly suited to continue to lead the fight and attract the support of advocates, elected officials and other decision makers working toward our goal of saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer. His legislative and organizing skills have carried him successfully from the hallways of Capitol Hill, to state capitol offices, to the neighborhoods of New York City.”

Prior to joining ACS CAN, Davoli spent four years as the legislative representative of the United Federation of Teachers at the New York State Capitol. His career has included leading extensive legislative and electoral campaigns on both coasts and work on public policy issues ranging from tobacco control to education policy and tax reform.
