Catastrophic Illness Program
Catastrophic Illness Program
· The catastrophic illness program is a vital lifeline that provides critical financial support to some of our most vulnerable citizens with catastrophic conditions, including cancer. Cancer patients represent the vast number of beneficiaries in the program. Patients receive up to $2500 to help cover costs associated with cancer care. Although this is only a small amount of money, it is critical to patients who have no other financial options.
· 700 cancer patients utilize the catastrophic illness program every year and in these difficult economic times, the program is needed more than ever.
· The catastrophic illness program is most often used by cancer patients to cover medications, including oral chemotherapy.
· If the catastrophic illness program is eliminated, it will result in cancer patients going without necessary care, or costs will be shifted on to medical providers.
· The catastrophic illness program provides a key safety net that fills in the gaps in our current health care system in New Hampshire.
· The catastrophic illness program has been in existence for over a quarter century and has provided access to life saving and life sustaining medications to thousands of cancer patients over the years.
