Montana Relay Advocacy | 2010
The Relay Advocacy Chair position allows you to be a leader at your Relay. Through advocacy, we can increase access to quality health care, improve the lives of cancer patients, and raise the level of funding for cancer research. Your fellow Relayers and members in your community can help make the fight against cancer a priority for elected officials in your state and across the nation. The information and activities you oversee will bring added power to the fight, your fight.
The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is the advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society. As Relay Advocacy Chair, you will be the representative of ACS CAN to your Relay For Life. You will be responsible for messaging the FIGHT BACK to Relay Committee Members, Team Captains, Relay volunteers, and your general community.

This document will provide you with a framework to organize your Relay Advocacy messages and activities starting at 6 months prior to your event.
Relay Advocacy Talking Points January | February | March | April | May
These documents are 3-5 minutes scripts to help you at your committee and team captain meetings. Each month provides a different focus and provides to with your membership pitch. Don’t forget to hand out ACS CAN membership forms/envelopes before the meeting and have membership premium gifts with you.
This is a basic membership form that you can print out as you need. ACS CAN has a very nice all-in-one membership form/envelope that we prefer you use. Please contact your state grassroots relationship manager to order these forms.
The single most important thing that you will do as Relay Advocacy Chair is to recruit ACS CAN members. These instruction will allow you to set up your own online fundraising page; tied to your Relay For Life. You can create and then blast it to your family, friends, and relay participants…you will meet your recruitment goal in no time.
Mobile Alerts One Pager (73585)
This one pager has all the facts on the effectiveness of text messaging campaigns. It will give you a basic understanding of why we are asking you to promote our mobile alerts sign up and its importance.
Unless specifically noted otherwise, the Society, and not ACS CAN, is conducting the activities described on this page.
