Smoke-Free Workplaces
There is no risk-free level of exposure to secondhand smoke. Secondhand smoke contains more than 60 known carcinogens and more than 4,000 chemicals including formaldehyde, arsenic, cyanide, and carbon monoxide.
The U.S. Surgeon General concludes 100% smoke-free workplace policies are the only effective way to eliminate secondhand smoke exposure in the workplace. In Missouri, we are working at the local level to protect everyone's right to breathe smoke-free air. No one should have to choose between their health and paycheck.
In 2010, we will continue to support local smoke-free initiatives. Below is a listing of smoke-free laws passed in Missouri and local smoke-free coalitions around the state and their websites.
