SAGE: MINNESOTA'S BREAST AND CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING PROGRAM
Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women, with proper screening and early detection many breast cancers deaths can be avoided. Sage is a life saving program in Minnesota that provides access to the early detection of breast and cervical cancer and treatment for women who lack adequate health insurance. Since 1991, it has served over 118,722 Minnesota women and detected 11471 breast and cervical cancer. Currently in Minnesota, only 3 in 5 eligible women are currently getting their mammography or pap smears.
Minnesota faces a significant budget deficit - $1.2 billion for the 2010 fiscal year. We need your voice to urge policymakers to continue to shield Sage in the budget process.
What you can do to help Shield Sage from budget cuts:
Call or write your legislators and let them know how important Sage, Minnesota’s breast and cervical cancer screening program is. Share with them your personal breast cancer story, and ask them to help shield this program from possible budget cuts.

We want to collect Sage survivors’ stories and deliver the message to policy makers that Sage is not just a program; it represents the lives of many Minnesota women saved from a deadly disease.

Sage is a public-private partnership between the State of Minnesota, Centers for Disease Control's National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program ( NBCCEDP), the Susan G. Komen Foundation, private health clinics that provide cancer screening, the American Cancer Society and other contributors. Sage services can mean the difference between early cancer detection and late stage cancer treatment or death. Women in Minnesota that lack adequate health insurance need access to Sage.
