President Obama Signs FDA Legislation - June 30, 2009
Last week, President Obama signed the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, as passed by Congress.
This critical bill, which has been in the works for more than a decade, would finally grant the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authority to regulate the manufacturing, marketing, and sale of tobacco products.
The legislation stops the marketing of tobacco products to children, requires tobacco companies to list the poisons in their products and mandates larger and more effective warning labels on tobacco product packaging.
ACS CAN is in the process of a "thank you" campaign targeting President Obama and key members of Congress who supported the legislation.
This has been a historic victory for ACS and the fruition of years of work by people in the division and around the country. Congratulations and thank you for all of your efforts on this campaign.
