LOCALS USE CREATIVITY TO FIGHT AGAINST CANCER

Supporters participate in charity “Paint Nite” Party to raise funds for the
American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network
Portland, ME – August 18, 2014 – The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) was recently joined by local supporters at the Sebago Brewing Company for a “Paint Nite” fundraiser. A portion of the proceeds from the event were donated to ACS CAN, the advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society.

Melissa Cushman, Grassroots Manager for ACS CAN in Maine, praised the painters for their support of the organization’s mission. “Every person here has helped contribute to our ability to increase research, access to care, and improved quality of life for cancer patients – simply by picking up their paint brushes, they are making a difference in the fight against cancer in the state and across the country.”
Janet Miles, a Livermore resident who participated in the fundraiser, voiced her support for ACS CAN’s legislative accomplishments in Maine, touting the recent passage of a bill mandating insurance companies cover oral chemotherapy treatments at the same rate of coverage as intravenous chemotherapies. “ACS CAN ensures cancer patients, survivors and caregivers have their voices heard in the legislature here in Maine, as well as in Washington DC. The work they do is invaluable.”
