Maryland End of Session Report
The Maryland General Assembly Session ended April 12, 2010. More so than in past years, the session was dominated by the downturn in the state economic climate. Many state run programs fell victim of balancing the state budget without raising taxes or fees by making deep and permanent reductions to state spending. The leadership communicated to all committee chairs to hold off passing legislation requiring new funding. Bills requiring new state spending were either withdrawn, received an unfavorable report, or no action was taken. Cancer advocacy had a few wins, some gains, and some set backs.
