Advocacy Volunteer Opportunities
Have 3 minutes or 3 hours? There’s always a way to help!
2009 is expected to be one of the most monumental legislative sessions in decades. We are looking for advocacy volunteers who want to get more involved and make a difference in the fight against cancer. There are many opportunities available. To see our brochure click here.
Legislative Ambassador - Ambassadors work with the Lead Ambassador in their Congressional District and with staff to accomplish our shared advocacy goals. Ambassadors are the first “go to” volunteers during state and federal legislative campaigns – to attend meetings with legislators, participate in media advocacy activities, attend Lobby Day and trainings, and reach our ACS CAN fundraising and membership goals.
ACS CAN FrontRunner - A FrontRunner is an individual who raises over $1,000 for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (CAN) in one fiscal year (September 1 - August 31). The Front Runners Club is a select group of individuals in New England committed to achieving extraordinary fundraising results for ACS CAN.
Relay For Life Advocacy Chair - The Advocacy Chair sits on the planning committee for the Relay For Life event in their community and is responsible for integrating our advocacy goals into the event by providing updates at Committee and Team Captains’ meeting, recruiting ACS CAN members, planning day-of-event advocacy activities, and planning and implementing the Fight Back ceremony with the Mission Chair.
Campaign Volunteer - A campaign volunteer is brought in as needed to help accomplish a specific legislative campaign. Campaign volunteers are highly committed to one, sometimes more, of the Society’s legislative issues. These individuals are willing to encourage personal networks to engage in the legislative campaign. There is potential to recruit campaign advocates to testify and/ or serve as a media spokesperson on the issue. If interested, please specify your area of interest.
Share My Personal Story – If you or someone you know have experienced barriers to your health care, you are not alone. In sharing your story with policy and decision makers, you can fight back at the feelings of helplessness and find empowerment and make change. Your voice and story can help the American Cancer Society make sure no one experiences the same challenges in getting and keeping access to quality care that could save lives.
If you are interested in any of these advocacy volunteer roles, please contact Marc Hymovitz at Marc.Hymovitz@cancer.org.
