Dear City Council Member X:
I am writing you to urge your support for Breathe Easy Macon. According to a report by the U.S. Surgeon General, smoking is the single greatest preventable cause of disease and death. The Surgeon General also details the dangers of secondhand smoke exposure, citing that such exposure causes disease and premature death in children and adults who do not smoke, and that scientific evidence indicates that there is no risk-free level of exposure to secondhand smoke. Further, exposure of adults and children to secondhand smoke has immediate adverse effects on the cardiovascular and respiratory system.

Following in the footsteps of Savannah and Athens, and many other major cities around the country, I hope the city of Macon will become a smoke-free city and give all workers and patrons the right to breathe clean air.

Sincerely,
